The AU Commission collaborated with Benin to mark the 14th African Border Day on 12 and 13 June in Cotonou, under the AU’s annual theme on education. The celebrations demonstrated Benin’s commitment to investing in education, infrastructure, and livelihoods to promote the prosperity and resilience of border communities.

A joint delegation led by the Prefect of the Department of Donga and AU Conflict Management Directorate Director Dr. Alhaji Sarjoh Bah visited the Commune of Bassila where they inaugurated a series of infrastructural projects on 10 June. The next day they inaugurated a school and water project and visited a market garden supporting women’s livelihoods in N’Djakata village along the Benin-Togo border together with government and local authorities. On 12 June the delegation toured Iwoye village along the Benin-Nigeria border and witnessed cross-border trade.
