Addis Ababa, 8 March 2013: Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, Commissioner for Peace and Security, met, yesterday, with Ambassador Mara Marinaki, Managing Director of Global and Multilateral Issues at the European Union External Action Service, at the African Union Headquarters.

The meeting highlighted the convergence of concerns and interests of the AU and EU in the area of counter-terrorism within the framework of the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy and emphasized the continued collaboration between the two organizations in this regard.

The meeting also provided Ambassador Marinaki the opportunity to speak about the activities of the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF), of which the EU is a co-founding member, and expressed her appreciation to the AU being a steady partner of the GCTF. In this regard, she emphasized the leadership role the AU should further take in coordinating the work of the GCTF in Africa.

Ambassador Lamamra and Ambassador Marinaki re-iterated their commitment to continued collaboration in promoting synergies in the area of counter-terrorism and other security matters within the framework of AU-EU partnership.
