At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Madagascar, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat deployed an African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), on the proposal of the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security (CPAPS) of the African Union (AU), H.E. Ambassador Bankole ADEOYE, to observe the legislative elections of 29 May 2024 in the Republic of Madagascar. The Mission will stay in the country from 22 May to 2 June 2024.

The AUEOM is coordinated by Mrs. Karine KAKASI SIABA, Ag. Head of the Democracy and Elections Unit (DEU) of the AUC. It comprises nine (09) Short Term Observers (STO) drawn from Member States reflecting the regional geographical diversity of the continent.

The Mission shall base its observation within the framework of International standards, continental and regional instruments as well as the national legal framework on elections. 

The Mission shall during its stay in the country, interact with all stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

It shall conduct its activities with all independence, impartiality and objectivity in line with the relevant instruments relating to democratic elections.

The Mission shall observe the last days of the election campaign, the voting on election day and the post-election phase.
