At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Guinea, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, on the proposal of the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, deployed an Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) for the legislative and local elections of May 31, 2026.

Led by Ambassador Calixte Aristide Mbari, Head of the Democracy, Elections and Constitutionalism Division at the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission, the Mission will stay in Guinea from May 27 to June 3, 2026.

The Mission is comprised of fifteen (15) short-term observers (STOs), from the following Member States: Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Niger and Zimbabwe.

The deployment of this Mission is in strict compliance with international rules and standards governing election observation as well as the legal framework in force in the Republic of Guinea.

As part of the execution of its mandate, the Mission will meet with stakeholders in the electoral process and observe the last day of the election campaign, election day and the post-election environment.

The Mission will publish a final report, along with relevant recommendations addressed to the Government of the Republic of Guinea, the Electoral Management Bodies, the Media, Civil Society Organizations, and the entire International Community.
