The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has deployed an African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) at the technical level, to observe the legislative elections scheduled for 27 December 2025 in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
The Mission is deployed on the recommendation of the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS), H.E. Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, and in accordance with relevant international, continental, and sub-regional instruments governing democratic elections, as well as the national legal framework. The AUEOM shall stay in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire from 22 to 31 December 2025.
The AUEOM is coordinated by Ms. Patience Zanelie Chiradza, Director of the Governance and Conflict Prevention Division within the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission and is comprised of 31 observers, drawn from 22 African Union Member States, namely: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
In line with the African Union’s election observation methodology, the Mission will engage with stakeholders in the electoral process and will observe the final days of the electoral campaign, election day operations, and the post-election environment.
The Mission shall publish a final report based on objective, impartial, and independent observations made by the Mission’s observers deployed in the field, as well as their interactions with stakeholders. The report will include appropriate recommendations aimed at strengthening democracy, the rule of law, and electoral governance, which constitute essential foundations for peace, security, national stability, and sustainable development.
