Addis Ababa, 17 September 2013: A three-day seminar on Children Affected by Armed Conflict and on Women, Peace and Security opened today in Addis Ababa, at the African Union (AU) Headquarters. Jointly organized by the AU Commission, the Transitional Demobilization and Reintegration Program (TDRP) of the World Bank, the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the seminar is being attended by representatives of AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the World Bank, UN agencies, the EU, and civil society organizations, as well as experts.
The seminar, which will end on 19 September 2013, provides an opportunity for participants to evaluate the implementation status of national strategies aimed at addressing issues of Children Affected by Armed Conflict (CAAC), and agree on the way forward. It will also review Member States’ efforts in the development and adoption of National Action Plans (NAPs) on UN Security Council resolution 1325.
