comments The African Union and its partners’ will hold a High level meeting on Preventing and Responding to Sexual Violence in Africa from 9-11 October, 2013 at the AU HQ in Addis Ababa. The meeting aims at strengthening the current global effort to combat sexual violence in Africa and beyond.
The Consultation aims at laying the foundation for the formulation of an AU led strategic framework for the prevention and response to Sexual Violence in Africa. The purpose is to dramatically reduce or even eliminate sexual violence, and accelerate the implementation of the urgent responses to the problem of sexual violence, which are required to ensure prevention, protection, access to care and to justice for the victims.
The High level meeting is an initiative of the African Union organized within the framework of the African Solidarity Initiative to bring together the AU Member states, the UN system, academics and practitioners working on the issues of prevention and response to sexual violence in Africa in a dialogue to address the compelling situation of Sexual violence on the Continent.
