Today, on International Women’s Day, i join the leadership of the African Union Commission and all African women, to reaffirm that gender equality is a cornerstone of peace, progress, sustainable development and prosperous society for all.

Advancing gender equality remains a universal imperative. Achieving a conflict-free and poverty-free Africa is impossible without empowering women and girls.

On this beautiful day, we reiterate our commitment to amplifying the voices and leadership of African women and girls, recognizing their vital contributions in every sphere of life, particularly in promoting peaceful coexistence amongst African communities and countries as a whole.

To our strong African women and girls, thank you for enriching our lives in countless ways including serving as the best champions for stability, good governance and social justice.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Bankole Adeoye
