Addis Ababa, 14 May 2013: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, strongly condemns the terrorist attack that took place in Benghazi, Libya, on 13 May 2013, killing several people and wounding many others. 

The Chairperson of the Commission expresses AU’s heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Libya, and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded. She stresses the Commission’s determination to continue working with all AU Member States towards preventing and combating of terrorism, notably through the effective implementation of relevant African and international instruments.

The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates the AU’s commitment, notably through its Liaison Office in Tripoli, to contribute to the on-going efforts by the Government of Libya to stabilize the security situation in the country, fight against terrorism, successfully conclude the transition process and consolidate democracy and the rule of law.
