comments Addis Ababa, 2 July 2012: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Jean Ping, strongly condemns the terrorist and cowardly attacks perpetrated against churches in the town of Garissa, in the North Eastern province of Kenya, which have killed a number of worshippers.
The Chairperson of the Commission expresses AU’s most sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and to the Kenyan Government. He wishes those wounded a speedy recovery.
The Chairperson reaffirms the AU’s continued support to the efforts of the Kenyan Government in the fight against terrorism and calls for further enhancing the African counter-terrorism cooperation in line with all the AU relevant instruments.
