Addis Ababa, 17 September 2019 - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, takes note of the provisional results of the Presidential election held on 15 September 2019 in Tunisia, as announced by the Independent Higher Authority of  Elections (ISIE).

The Chairperson of the Commission congratulates the Tunisian authorities on the efforts made for the success of the first round of the Presidential election and also commends the maturity of the Tunisian people, who, once again, have demonstrated their deep commitment to peace, stability and democracy.

The Chairperson recalls that the African Union Commission had dispatched a technical mission of Electoral experts, led by Her Excellency Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, former President of the Republic of Mauritius, to observe the conduct of the Presidential election.

The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates the commitment of the African Union to stand with the brotherly people of Tunisia to support them in the conduct of the ongoing electoral process, in accordance with the continental instruments governing elections in Africa.
