The African Union High-Level Panel for Egypt undertakes a week-long mission to Cairo Last Updated on Monday 29 July 2013

As a follow up to the communiqué of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) of 5 July 2013 and subsequent consultations between the AU Commission and the Egyptian authorities, the AU High-Level Panel for Egypt undertakes a visit to Cairo from 27 July to 5 August 2013. The purpose of this first visit is to gather information and consult with the Egyptian authorities and other stakeholders on the prevailing situation in Egypt. The Panel will also interact with the Secretary-General and other senior officials of the League Arab States.

It is to be recalled that the Panel, which is chaired by former President Alpha Oumar Konare of Mali and comprises former President Festus Mogae of Botswana  and former Djibouti Prime Minister Dileita Mohamed Dileita, was established by the Chairperson of the Commission on 8 July 2013. The Panel held its inaugural meeting in Addis Ababa, on 16 July 2013.
