When: Journalists and media representatives are invited to cover the opening ceremony of the 10th Informal Joint Meeting between the AUPSC and the UNSC at 2:00 pm (EAT) on Thursday, 16 October 2025, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies of the 19th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting between the AUPSC and the UNSC at 10:00 am and 5:00 pm (EAT) on 17 October 2025.

Where: Old Conference Centre, African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Who: Permanent Representatives of AU Member States serving on the AU Peace and Security Council, and United Nations Security Council Members supported by the AU Commission and UN Secretariat, will discuss crucial peace and security issues impacting the African continent. These include the threat of terrorism and counter-terrorism efforts, peace support operations, country situations and inclusion in peace processes, particularly the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, 25 years after UNSC Resolution 1325.

Why: The AUPSC and UNSC, as part of efforts towards “Silencing the Guns” in Africa, in line with the principles of complementarity, comparative advantage, and shared responsibility, have, over the years, worked closely to promote peace, security, and stability in conflict-affected countries and regions across Africa. In line with the AU Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, these multilateral efforts are vital in advancing peace and development across Africa and ensuring democratic dividends and human rights, particularly the right to development for African peoples.
